Hello!
My son Andrei was born in 1992. In 2007 he got sick with lymphoma. He was treated in the town of Stavropol since we live in that region. The treatment was quite successful, and the lymphoma in his chest disappeared. But all of a sudden he started having severe headaches. An MRI scan revealed a 5 centimeter brain tumor.
On February 20, 2009 Andrei had a surgery on his brain at the neurosurgery unit of the Stavropol hospital, and the tumor was removed. I gathered all papers and sent them to the board of doctors of the Petrov Institute of Oncology in St. Petersburg. The doctors arrived at the conclusion that there had been mistakes in the treatment of lymphoma, and the tumor went up to the brain...
Andrei was admitted for treatment. It's been almost two months that my son and I are in hospital. I have a daughter called Masha back home, she is 13 and is staying with my retired parents. Andrei's father (my first husband) does not help us much because he does not live with us.
Andrei is a very calm boy. It is hard for him to be separated from family. He misses his grandparents, his sister Masha and his friends. Andrei is not a fan of travel and change of places. That is why he is so homesick. He was very depressed for the first two weeks: he refused to leave his room in hospital and did not talk to anyone. One of his hobbies is motorcycles. Back home Andrei has his own motorcycle - an IZh model. He likes to repair motorbikes with his friends, they exchange spare parts and go out to the woods on their motorbikes. Now his only connection to his friends is his phone. They talk to each other, they tell Andrei what's new in our village, and Andrei never lets the phone out of his hands. It's the only tie he has to his home.
At present our family is in a bad financial situation. That is why I turned to the AdVita charity fund to ask all good people to help me pay for my son's treatment. Thank you all in advance.

Respectfully, Olga Golovina.

Update as of June 16, 2009. Andrei underwent two courses of high-dosage chemotherapy. The tests (MRI and CT scan) s howed significant improvement. Lymphoma is a blood disease, which in most cases responds very well to treatment. But it requires time, patience, and of course, money.
We need money for the medications, food, and simply for living expenses, as I stay with my son around the clock.
We will be very grateful for your help! On June 17th Andrei will start the third block. In total, six blocks are planned.

Update as of September 25, 2009. Andrei completed five rounds of chemotherapy, and the last one turned out to be very difficult. Due to severe stomatitis, Andrei could not eat, drink or even talk. He had to write down everything he wanted to say. He is now starting the sixth round, which is supposed to be the last according to the protocol. Whether it would be the final round will be known after the control tests. Bone marrow transplantation is also under discussion. I would like to address those who help us financially: thank you! I am praying for each and every one of you!

Update as of October 26, 2009. Andrei was not able to achieve complete remission. The doctors decided to administer a course of radiation therapy, and then consider autologous bone marrow transplantation again.

Update as of December 25, 2009. Andrei underwent an examination in the beginning of December, the tumor is gone, there remained only cicatricial tissue and cysts. Next he is going to have PET of the head and chest. We will be coming for examinations at the end of January when Andrei turns 18.
We would very much appreciate your help with paying for PET. We are very thankful to the AdVita fund and all our supporters.
