Artem died on February 23, 2006

Artem is 3. He and I (his mom) are in a very difficult situation. Artem has leukemia. We do not have any relatives in St. Petersburg, and only a retired grandmother at home where we live.
My sick leave is not paid in full, and I receive only 25% of the disability pension for my child. This is all our income.
While we were at the hospital we met with people of faith who supported us emotionally and helped to keep our spirits high. They recommended us to ask for help at this web site. We are very hopeful for any help.
Artem's leukemia is very dangerous. We need the money for his treatment and food. We do not even have an electric kettle, and it is the only way to boil the water at the hospital.
A bone marrow transplant is recommended for this disease. Related donor was not found. It means that a search for donor at the international registry has to be initiated. The search costs 15,000 euro, and the delivery of transplant to St. Petersburg costs another 2,000 euro.

Update as of September 12, 2005.
The doctors assured us that Artem is now in remission. The biopsy of his bone marrow showed only 2% of blasts. Based on that, we restarted search for the donor at Stefan Morsch registry. After discussion with the transplantologists, E. Boychenko, the head of department, decided that Artem needs to receive FLAG chemotherapy this week in order to strengthen the remission. This is very risky, but according to the doctors, it is the only way for Artem to survive until the transplant. We would like to thank everybody for believing in Tema’s recovery and their continued support even during the time when the situation appeared hopeless.

Update as of October 5, 2005.
Artem has received two blocks of intensive chemotherapy. After the first block, he had a significant improvement in his condition. He is now in the recovery period from the second block.
A bone marrow donor for Artem was found! The operation has not yet been scheduled.

Update as of November 8, 2005. Artem is scheduled to receive bone marrow transplant on December 6, 2005.

Update as of December 2, 2005. Federal company, Rosoboronexport, and Russian President Administration paid for the delivery of transplant for Artem in full (including all taxes). Thank you very much for help!

Update as of December 7, 2005. Artem had a bone marrow transplant operation on the night of December 6th. He will need several thrombocyte systems that cost 8,500 rubles each.

Update as of December 28, 2005. Artem was discharged from the BMT clinic of State Medical University and transferred to the Children Hospital No.1.

Update as of January 30, 2006.
Tema's intestinal GVHD (graft versus host disease) worsened, and his blood pressure dropped. He was transferred into intensive care unit where he is in a stable condition.

Update as of February 7, 2005. Tema was discharged from intensive care unit, but then was re-admitted with an acute pancreatitis. His infection has lessened, and he no longer has stomachaches.

Update as of February 13, 2006. Tema is still in intensive care unit. He is getting over the acute pancreatitis, but he still has aches. Tema needs Cyclosporine and Diflucan, to be received intravenously. The hospital does not have these drugs, so we need your help.

Update as of February 21, 2006. Tema developed intestinal blockage due to GVHD, and is suffering from strong pains. An emergency operation is being discussed.

Update as of February 22, 2006. After considering Tema's condition (his thrombocytes are at 10) and the potential surgery risks, the doctors concluded that the operation should be delayed. The lead surgeon is on-call today, so he will be available in case of emergency.
