My name is Liliya Yanchenko. I am Kostya Starygin's mom. He is 6 years old.
When he was 2.5 years old, he got sick and a local pediatrician referred us
to the Regional Children's hospital in Rostov-on-Don. While there, Kostya was
diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, intermediate risk, at the Hematology
unit.
We completed treatment with chemotherapy – a year in the hospital and a year
on maintenance therapy at our place of residence. At the end of therapy, Kostya
had a bone marrow relapse.
Once again, a year of intensive high-dosage chemotherapy and maintenance therapy. In
February 2009, Kostya got sick with severe type of pneumonia and chemotherapy
had to be interrupted. Soon afterwards, in July 2009 we were again admitted to the
hospital with the second relapse in bone marrow.
This time, chemotherapy was not effective that caused us to contact R. Gorbacheva
clinic. The doctors explained that Kostya needs urgent bone marrow transplantation.
Please help us with paying for Kostya's tests and medications, as well as for apartment
rent. I am 5-months pregnant and care for Kostya at the hospital around the clock. It
is already not easy for me to cope, and it will be even more difficult later. We
need help of our relatives. Since our permanent residence is in Rostov region, we have
to rent an apartment in St. Petersburg. Thank you in advance.
Lilya, Kostya's mom
Update as of December 24, 2009.
Kostya had an anti-relapse chemotherapy course, FLAG protocol.
Unfortunately remission has not been achieved, Kostya has blasts
again. He feels a lot worse, has a high blood pressure and bad
headaches. Kostya is now at the intensive care unit.
