Hello!
We would like to ask you tor help our relative Larisa Gennadievna Bodrilova
who lives in St. Petersburg. She is now 40 and has a rare disease.
On November 1, 2009 Larisa was admitted to the Pokrovsky City Hospital with a
neoformation in the maxillary sinus. An emergency maxillo-ethmoidal sinusotomy
was performed on November 5, 2009, and histological analysis revealed a mycotic
lesion, namely zygomycosis of paranasal sinuses. Larisa continued with the
treatment course at the Kashkin Research Institute of Medical Mycology (SPbMAPO).
Zygomycosis can be treated with two drugs: the drug of choice is Posaconazole
(Noxafil), 800 mg per day, and the alternative drug is Amphotericin B, 1 mg per
kg a day. Since Posaconazole is very expensive and was not available at hospital
Larisa was administered Amphotericin B which is very toxic and has a negative
effect on the liver and kidneys, so it cannot be administered for more than 20 days.
On December 31 Larisa was discharged from hospital as the Research Institute
of Medical Mycology was to be closed until January 11, 2010. At home she was
taking Posaconazole which we acquired ourselves. On January 11, 2010 Larisa
was once again admitted to the Research Institute of Medical Mycology for the
treatment course to be continued, but Posaconazole is still not available at
hospital.
To survive Larisa needs Posaconazole, 800 mg per day for 3 months, which makes
up 18 bottles (1 bottle is 100 ml, 1 ml is 40 mg). The drug costs 70 to 100
thousand roubles, and that means that a 3-months' course (18 bottles) will
cost 1,800,000 roubles.
Larisa is not a millionaire's daughter, and besides she is officially acknowledged
as belonging to disability group III due to a trauma. We are all working and
trying to earn the money but unfortunately our family's budget is not enough.
The treatment is very serious and expensive, that is why we have to ask you for
help.
Thank you for your understanding.

Larisa was taking Posaconazole from March 5 to March 18 at Mycology
Research Institute. She wanted to take a rest from the last intense
course of therapy with Amphotericin B, but on March 19th she started
IV drips of Amphotericin again. Larisa cannot afford to buy the next
bottle of Posaconazole.

Update as of April 24, 2010.
We managed to convince Health Committee give us medications, and
already received the first monthly portion out of total number of
18 bottles of drug necessary. So we no longer need help. We are
enormously grateful to everyone who has been helping Larisa
all this time! She has been transferred to ambulatory
therapy for a month.
