Hello!
My daughter Sofia got sick with acute myeloblastic leukemia when she was 7.
For two months she was treated in Krasnoyarsk, but without any results.
It turned out that the only chance to save my daughter was bone marrow
transplantation. Fortunately, Sonia's siblings, Dasha and Dima, both matched
her as donors. Sonia's brother became a donor.
At the end of July we came for transplantation. It went well, the transplant
is now engrafting.
Sonechka needs a very expensive drug, Vfend. It will have to be taken for a
long time, so that Sonia avoids complications.
For our family, the cost of this medication is totally beyond our reach. And
we also need to rent an apartment, as we have no relatives in St. Petersburg
who could house us.
Please help us with buying Vfend for our daughter.
Update as of October 26, 2009.
Sonia had worsening of skin GVHD and it was taken under control. The girl's
condition is pretty good and the doctors allowed her to go home to Krasnoyarsk
for a month. We are enormously grateful to Russian Help Fund that provided
Sonia with Vfend for the duration of her trip home.
Update as of December 8, 2009.
Sonia completed planned tests. She is in remission, but needs to continue Vfend
therapy. Sonia is now at home.
Update as of January 18, 2010.
Sonia is at home and doing well. She was taken off Cyclosporine and Vfend.
The tests are scheduled for the end of January.
Update as of March 3, 2010.
Sonia came for scheduled tests at the beginning of February. All was well
and remission was confirmed. Sonia is already at home, but as soon as she
arrived, she got sick with bacterial pneumonia. Since she was previously
ill with aspergillosis, she was prescribed Vfend to prevent recurrence of
aspergillosis, at 400 mg a day.
Update as of March 14, 2010.
The tests did not confirm aspergillosis and Sonia was taken off Vfend. She
is continuing treatment of bacterial pneumonia and feeling better already.
