Other Tanya's photos

My daughter Tanya is 16. She got sick two years ago. Her diagnosis is Ewing's sarcoma. Tanya had to have a surgery and 14 chemotherapy courses before she was finally discharged in August 2005. In March 2006 there was a relapse – a neoformation in the lungs and mediastinum. Back to hospital, back to chemotherapy, and bone marrow autotransplantation needed.
My daughter Tanya is a wonderful girl. Kind-hearted, always eager to help, an open and sensible person. Her friends love her, and she is always ready to help everyone. Her dream is to become a teacher of history, and even now in hospital she's spending lots of time reading books. She likes drawing and playing the flute. We believe that everything is going to be all right.
Tanya's father was engaged in eliminating the accident in Chernobyl where he spent the May of 1986. Tanya was born 2.5 years later. Perhaps her disease is somehow connected to that fact.
We need your help badly. Tanya will have to go through a chemotherapy course with Topotecan which is very expensive: five vials cost around 70,000 roubles. I am a single mother of two children and I cannot work at the moment because I am in hospital with my daughter. We cannot cope on our own! In the meantime we have to get an autotransplantation for which we need to buy the devices for stem cells harvesting, catheters, antibiotics for the postsurgical treatment and much more. During our first days in hospital alone we had to spend 10,000 roubles to buy an antibiotic called Maxipime because this drug cannot be acquired free of charge.
I hope that someone will read this letter of mine and won't stay indifferent to my daughter's life. Tanya is my joy and my pride! Thank you all very much for helping save my girl!

Bill for the donor search in Germany

Update as of October 12, 2006. Today is the 3rd day after the transplantation. Tanya's condition is grave.
We still need help: food, money and blood donors.
If someone can help Tanya's mother with some technical issues (go to the food store or drug store) please do it.
Tanya's sister is going through the second stage of the matching process as a possible bone marrow donor for Tanya.

Update as of October 30, 2006. Tanya's leukocyte and platelet counts have risen and she can have visitors again!
The girl is still very weak but she's feeling better every day. According to the preliminary results five of the six lung foci are gone after the transplantation. After rehabilitation Tanya will be administered radiation therapy.
If the focus is not gone then homogeneous relative transplantation is possible – Tanya's younger sister can be her donor.

Update as of January 22, 2007. Tanya had an appendectomy. She is feeling fine.

Update as of December 24, 2009. Tanya has a relapse. She has been admitted to the Children's Hematology and Transplantology Institute for chemotherapy which will be followed by a bone marrow transplantation. Tanya's sister is going to be her donor.

Update as of December 29, 2009. Tanya's had her first chemotherapy course and is now recovering. Her sister is being examined as her possible donor.

Update as of January 14, 2010. Tanya will start the 2nd round of chemotherapy tomorrow. Tomorrow she will also learn the results of CT scan that she had today.

Update as of January 20, 2010. Tanya is recovering after the 2nd cycle of chemotherapy. Based on results of CT scan of lungs, the tumor mass shrank by 30-40%, but Tanya developed lesions of possibly fungal origin.
She is now undergoing additional mycology tests. Tanya was prescribed Vfend.

Update as of January 22, 2010. Tanya is undergoing chemotherapy under VIDE protocol. Yesterday she finished rinsing out. She feels rather well and is not nauseous anymore. Thanks to a laptop that she got from her friends, Tanyusha now can communicate with them over the Internet.

Update as of February 1, 2010. Tanya's treatment is proceeding according to the plan. She feels rather well and active. The only problem is she has problem with mucositis and cannot eat. Tanya's wisdom teeth are also coming out and it is very painful.

Update as of February 10, 2010. After two courses of therapy under VIDE protocol, Tanya achieved partial remission. In the next few days, she will start another cycle of chemotherapy (Temodal + Campto).

Update as of March 3, 2010. Tanya completed the first cycle of chemotherapy under an experimental protocol. After the second course, she will be tested.

Update as of March 26, 2010. Tanya finished a chemotherapy cycle. She is now at home where she is resting and recovering.

Update as of April 30, 2010. Tanya is undergoing another cycle of chemotherapy with Hycamtin and Cyclophosphane. She feels well and is in a positive mood. Tanya developed an interest in cross-stitching.

Update as of May 19, 2010. A decision was made that Tanya will undergo transplantation from an unrelated donor. Even though her sister is 100% match, Tanya and her sister Marina have too much difference in body weight and it will not be possible to collect enough cells without damaging the donor. An invoice from the registry will be received in a few days.

Update as of July 8, 2010. Tanya had PET scan, and she has positive dynamic. Her treating doctor said that she has something to fight for. Tanya started fifth cycle of chemotherapy with Dasatinib, Hycamtin and Temodal. These drugs were purchased by AdVita fund from the money sent to all patients. Tanya feels rather well.
We are very grateful l to everyone who donates blood for Tanya and supports us financially!
