Hello!
My son Zhenya turned 19 on August 22. He is our only and long-awaited son, our gift from God. In 2004 our family was shattered by bad news. Zhenya was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma of the right hip. After a long and difficult treatment and installation of endoprosthesis, Zhenya's leg had to be amputated.
Our son adjusted to it and then overcame a relapse. He graduated from high school and enrolled into a college. Now he has a second relapse in his lungs. Again Zhenya needs to receive treatment in St. Petersburg (we live in Tikhvin).
Zhenya believes in his ultimate success and believes that he will win over his disease despite the setbacks. He enjoys life and he is a heart and soul of his circle of friends. Zhenya is a responsible boy, who loves life and wants to live. Unfortunately, our family resources have been drained over the years of treatment. Zhenya's dad is a carpenter and he takes any job he can find. He is rarely at home despite having some health problems. I constantly stay by Zhenya's side.
We need money to travel to St. Petersburg, for treatment, prosthesis and medications. Please help our son win over his disease!

Update as of December 8, 2008. Zhenya completed two courses of high-dosage chemotherapy. The control testing is showing significant improvement. The further treatment plan is being discussed.

Update as of January 30, 2009. Zhenya was found to have metastases in his lungs, and an operation is planned to remove them. Zhenya will stay at home until the operation.

Update as of March 11, 2009. On March 10th Zhenya had an operation with isolated perfusion of his lung with Cisplatin.

Update as of April 15, 2009. Zhenya has pneumothorax and got a drainage. His condition is grave.

Update as of April 27, 2009. The doctors managed to take residual effects of pneumothorax under control, and tomorrow Zhenya will be allowed to go home for two weeks. Afterwards, he will be hospitalized for the next chemotherapy.

Update as of June 3, 2009. A metastasis was found in Zhenya's lymph node near his collarbone. A surgery is planned to remove the lesion. The CT scan of lungs showed that they are clear.

Update as of July 15, 2009. Zhenya is now undergoing chemotherapy with Irinotecan and Temodal. The surgery has been postponed.

Update as of August 8, 2009. Zhenya completed two very difficult chemotherapy rounds. He has already recovered from cytopenia and on Monday he will have surgery to remove lesions.

Update as of August 23, 2009. A decision was made to postponed surgery and administer a course of radiation therapy.

Update as of October 2, 2009. Zhenya completed a course of therapy with Holoxan combined with radiation therapy. There was positive dynamic, and Zhenya started the second course.

Update as of October 21, 2009. Zhenya recovered after the second round of chemotherapy and radiation and was allowed to stay at home until Monday. On Monday, the doctors will discuss the possibility and timing of the surgery.

Update as of November 13, 2009. Zhenya had surgery that lasted many hours but the tumor was =not removed completely. Further therapy is under discussion.

Update as of January 10, 2010. Zhenya is continuing chemotherapy under a different protocol. The course will last for two weeks, and it was started on January 2. He is in a stable condition.

Update as of February 9, 2010. Zhenya feels better and continues therapy.

Update as of March 26, 2010. Zhenya completed a course of radiation therapy. At the area of the burn he developed swelling, which bothers Zhenya very much. He is being monitored at the hospital. If his general condition improves, the doctors will allow him stay at home for a week.

Update as of April 30, 2010. Zhenya is now at home on maintenance therapy.
